:: Fourteenth International Investigator Course 29 November to 10 December 2010

The Institute for International Criminal Investigations (IICI) proposes to hold its 14th International Investigator Course (IIC14) from 29 November - 10 December 2010 and is seeking applications from people proposing to attend the course. The course will be held at the IICI Headquarters (The Hague, Netherlands) and the Royal Netherlands Army School for Peace Operations (Harskamp, Netherlands).

The deadline for applications is 20 September 2010.

The course is designed to provide experienced criminal investigators and related experts with the additional skills necessary for the successful investigation of serious violations of international humanitarian law, including war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity. Theoretical work is combined with practical exercises.

The training is open to those investigators who have at least five years' experience in criminal investigation, preferably in complex criminal cases, with international experience desirable, or five years' as a human rights investigator with experience in criminal inquiries. It is also open to military officers, criminal attorneys and forensic specialists with international experience. Fluency in written and spoken English is a necessity for IIC14.

The fee for participation is € 3,300. This amount includes tuition, accommodation and meals. :: Analysis Skills Course 23-25 November 2010

The Institute for International Criminal Investigations (IICI) proposes to hold its 3rd Analysis Skills course from 23-25 November 2010 (3 days) and is seeking applications from people proposing to attend the course. The course will be held at the IICI Headquarters (The Hague, The Netherlands).

The deadline for applications is 27 September 2010.

The Analysis Skills course covers topics considered essential to establish analytical capacity for individuals who will deliver analysis in relation to the investigation of serious violations of international humanitarian, criminal and human rights law.

The course is open to individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds. It will be considered desirable, however, for participants to be employed in the field of international humanitarian law or human rights, either within a recognised international organisation (governmental or non-governmental) or a national war crimes investigation unit. Fluency in written and spoken English is a necessity for the Analysis Skills course.

The fee for participation is € 500. This amount covers tuition only. :: Standard Professional Interview Course: 25 to 27 October 2010 and Advanced Investigative Interview Course: 28 to 29 October 2010

IICI Announces Standard Professional Interview and Advanced Investigative Interviewing Courses

The Institute for International Criminal Investigations (IICI) proposes to hold a Standard Professional Interview (SPI) course from 25 - 27 October 2010 (3 days), followed by an Advanced Investigative Interviewing (AII) course from 28 - 29 October 2010 (2 days). The IICI is seeking applications from people proposing to attend either one or both of these courses. The course will be held at the IICI Headquarters (The Hague, The Netherlands).

The deadline for applications is 31 August 2010.

In early September successful applicants will be notified of the confirmed course dates. At this stage the proposed course dates are tentative.

The Standard Professional Interview (SPI) course is designed to provide experienced criminal investigators and related experts with the additional skills necessary for interviewing witnesses and suspects when investigating serious violations of international humanitarian law, including war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity. Theoretical work is combined with practical exercises.

The Advanced Investigative Interviewing (AII) course aims to further develop the participant's ability to interview witnesses or suspects who may be disadvantaged through age, developmental or post traumatic stress disorder, including, for example, children, rape victims or those with learning disabilities. This course will mainly consist of practical exercises and live interviews. The number of places on the AII will be limited to six so that individual feedback can be given to each participant after the interview exercise.

These courses are open to those investigators who have at least five years' experience in criminal investigation, preferably in complex criminal cases, with international experience desirable, or five years' as a human rights investigator with experience in criminal inquiries. They are also open to military officers, criminal attorneys and forensic specialists with international experience. Fluency in written and spoken English is a necessity for SPI and AII.

The fee for participation is € 500 for the SPI course, and € 500 for the AII course. These amounts cover tuition only. Participants must arrange and meet the costs of their own travel, accommodation and meals (lunch will be provided on course days).
